Orla Kelly is a doctoral candidate at Boston College. Her interests include the sociology of development, gender, girls’ education, and environmental sociology. Orla worked as a research research associate at the Harvard FXB Center between 2010 and 2015. In this position, Orla was responsible for the center’s gender and adolescence research portfolio in India. In this role she managed a number of research projects relating to gender discrimination, access to education, and violence against women, in South Asia. She has co-authored several significant publications on gender and education in India building on her research. Her current research examines the link between gender empowerment and climate change.
Orla has also worked at Human Rights Law Network in New Delhi. There she engaged in research focused on the implementation of the economic, social and cultural rights of marginalized women and persons with disabilities. Between 2005 and 2007 Orla worked at Google’s European headquarters in Dublin as a campaign developer. Orla holds an LLM in International Human Rights Law and an MBA in International Business from University College Dublin.
