Join the Palestine Program for Health and Human Rights for a panel discussion on the impact of attacks, torture, detention, siege, and direct targeting of health workers in the West Bank and the Gaza Strip. We will be joined by Dr. Osaid Alser, a physician and global surgery researcher from Gaza, Palestine, and Milena Ansari, the Israel and Palestine Assistant Researcher at Human Rights Watch (HRW).

Kayum is a South African human rights activist-scholar and HRW’s Program Lead for the Global Health Initiative (GHI). GHI is an innovative, interdisciplinary, and cross-divisional structure that serves as a creative space to advance decolonial knowledge and methodologies centered on reimagining the right to health. Kayum works on various global health projects including pandemic preparedness, Indigenous epistemologies, and the evolution of the right to health to include non-human nature. He also serves as a visiting scholar at Birzeit University in Palestine.

Milena Ansari, LLM

Milena Ansari is the Israel and Palestine Assistant Researcher at HRW, monitoring and reporting on human rights conditions and abuses in Israel and Palestine. Over the years, Milena has gained valuable experiences working to defend human rights with leading Palestinian human rights organizations, analyzing systematic violations of prisoners’ rights and children’s rights under international law. In 2022, she also worked part time as an International Law Lecturer at Birzeit University in Palestine.
