François-Xavier Bagnoud Center for Health and Human Rights Director Dr. Mary T. Bassett and Director of Research Professor Jacqueline Bhabha recently penned a letter to the Supreme Court of Mexico in support of Dr. Sergio Aguayo, journalist and FXB fellow. According to the Committee to Protect Journalists, Dr. Aguayo was ordered by a Mexico City court to pay a fine of 10 million pesos to former Coahuila state governor Humberto Moreira, or face the confiscation of his properties. Dr. Aguayo regularly writes about Mexican politics in Reforma, a daily publication.
The letter from the FXB Center, addressed to Minister Alfredo Gutiérrez Ortiz Mena, recognizes Dr. Aguayo’s many contributions to the FXB Center and the human rights field, and asks that he is cleared of all wrongdoing.
