GHP Brown Bag – Healthcare (Data) for All: A Roadmap for India

This event in the Brown Bag Seminar Series, sponsored by the Harvard Chan Department of Global Health and Population, features Dr. Satchit Balsari, assistant professor in emergency medicine at Harvard Medical School and Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, and Harvard FXB Fellow.

In India, as around the world, there is vast excitement about the power of Big Data and Artificial Intelligence in advancing healthcare delivery. And yet, the vast
majority of clinical interactions in India are captured on hand written paper records, or not at all. In September 2018, India launched the world’s largest health insurance scheme, offering coverage to 500 million people. The need to monitor and evaluate services and payments for this vast enterprise will finally provide the impetus needed to jumpstart India’s digital health data ecosystem. Dr. Balsari will present his team’s work on prototyping a federated, API-enabled, PHR-based model for health data exchange, that seeks to avoid the challenges of redundancy,inaccessibility, and proprietorship seen with health data in the United States,
