Mayor Joseph Curtatone

Joseph Curtatone is in his sixth term as mayor of Somerville, MA.

Under his leadership, the Somerville Public Schools have seen extraordinary MCAS growth scores, the City is undertaking some of the most anticipated transit-oriented development projects in the region, and a transformation of the cityā€™s pedestrian and bicycle infrastructure has earned the City status as one of the most walkable and bikeable cities in the nation.

Mayor Curtatoneā€™s key initiatives include the Shape Up Somerville initiative combatting childhood obesity and a focus on overall wellbeing, comprehensive reform of the Somerville Police Department, and a citywide commitment to data-driven performance management

Somerville has earned distinctions by regional and national organizations, including the designation by The Boston Globe as ā€œthe best-run city in Massachusetts,ā€ by America’s Promise Alliance as one of the “100 Best Communities for Youth” in the nation, and by the National Civic League as a two-time winner of the prestigious “All-America City Award” competition.
