Confronting State Violence across the Globe (April 5, 2024)
In partnership with the Romani Studies Program at Central European University, the Palestine Program for Health and Human Rights, the Center on Forced Displacement at Boston University, the Center for Human Rights and International Justice, History and Music Departments at the Morrissey College of Arts and Sciences at Boston College, the Carr Center for Human Rights Policy at the Harvard Kennedy School, the Harvard University Committee on Ethnicity, Migration, Rights (EMR), and the Human Rights Program at Harvard Law School, the Roma Program at the FXB Center for Health and Human Rights hosted a free, hybrid format conference at Harvard University’s Barker Center (110 Thompson Room) on Friday, April 5, 2024. This constituted the Roma Program’s 12th Roma conference marking the annual International Roma Day which is celebrated worldwide every April 8th. In partnership with the Department of Social and Behavioral Sciences, Harvard Chan School of Public Health, the Charles Warren Center for Studies in American History at Harvard University, the Romani Studies Program at Central European University, the Center on Forced Displacement at Boston University, and the Centre for Medical Humanities at Oxford Brookes University, the Roma Program at the FXB Center for Health and Human Rights hosted a free, in-person conference at Harvard University’s Martin Center. This constituted the Roma Program’s 11th Roma conference marking the annual International Roma Day which is celebrated worldwide every April 8th. In partnership with Harvard Public Health magazine, the FXB Center for Health and Human Rights hosted a free, in-person symposium at Harvard University’s Martin Center. Throughout the day, we examined the challenging question of how to redress centuries of anti-Black racism – and how to ensure that reparations are designed with the long-term health of Black communities and individuals in mind. Speakers brought a wide range of expertise in law, policy, public health, history, media, and community organizing.
